Global, grassroots, and going places!
Travel and professional development for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics scholars.
STEM-Trek is a global, grassroots, nonprofit organization that supports travel and professional development for STEM scholars from regions affected by the global economic crisis.
Beneficiaries of the program, or STEM-Trekkers, are encouraged to pay-it-forward by volunteering to serve as technology evangelists at home.
Graduate and postdoctoral scholars from STEM fields may submit unique proposals that involve technology-related travel and/or professional development. Submissions are reviewed quarterly.
STEM-Trek does not discriminate on the basis of national origin, race, disability, gender, ancestry, religion, or sexual orientation.
When high-tech scholars volunteer to help others, the exchange is useful for everyone. Those helped gain important skills and a better understanding of how STEM research improves their lives. Volunteers gain empathy for others who are challenged by technology needed to find jobs or learn new things–especially the growing workforce that must adapt to disability and aging. The experience shapes more considerate future innovators.
