Alana Romanella (PhD) is STEM-Trek’s proposal adviser and helps review submissions. She will make introductions if applicants wish to have a mentor, or if they’d like to meet an accomplished professional in a field they hope to pursue.
Romanella oversees each STEM-Trek beneficiary’s “pay-it-forward” obligation, and will offer editorial assistance with their activity reports.
When she isn’t volunteering to help STEM-Trek, Romanella is the Assistant Director for Advanced Research Computing at Virginia Tech. She is also a professor of Political Science at Radford University, an XSEDE Campus Champion and an XSEDE Student Campus Champion Mentor (US National Science Foundation’s eXtreme Science and Engineering Digital Environment).
Romanella has a passion for the social sciences, and enjoys developing educational workshops, lecture series programs, public awareness campaigns and serving as an advocate for people and communities that are underrepresented in STEM fields.
