Damas Makweba, Dar Es Salaam Institute of Technology, Tanzania

Damas-TeachingDamas Makweba completed his Bachelor of Computer Engineering degree in 2011 at Dar Es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) in Tanzania. After graduation, he worked for various companies as a Network Engineer, System Administrator and Facilitator where he configured network systems and conducted local and international workshops.

Since June 2012, Damas has served as chief technical officer at the Tanzania Education and Research Network (TERNET) where he’s responsible for network engineering and technical administration.

He also works for DIT as an Instructor in the India-Tanzania Center of Excellency in Informationdamas-hpc and Communication Technology (ICT) where he manages the HPC department. While at DIT, Damas participated in a five-day Ranger workshop at the CHPC in South Africa and installed two Ranger racks, which support the DIT Master of Science in Computational Science and Engineering program.

As a DIT instructor, Damas teaches professional courses in Linux, CISCO and Network security, as well as an intro to supercomputing workshop and supports the DIT researchers and scientists who use HPC. He is skilled with Python, Fortran, Perl, R, and Octave, and is learning MPI and OpenMP.

Damas is currently participating in the International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) Training and Research in Italian Laboratories (TRIL) fellowship program in Trieste, Italy where he attended the following HPC workshops: Architecture and Applications; Parallel Programming and Parallel Architecture; Applications in Earth Science; and a Symposium on Data-Intensive Applications in Earth Science.
